Parish AGM next Sunday 2pm at the church – this weekend the AGM reports are available for you to collect. You can also view it online here. AGM Booklet 2017  With so many good things happening in our community, it is difficult to adequately capture all that is being done. But I hope you will find these reports helpful. At the meeting, the diocesan Property Officer Mr Tony Sewell will speak about our parish rebuild. We will publish the highlights of his talk in the following weeks.

Ordination of Deacon Alister Castillo to the Priesthood – it is a great blessing for our diocese to be ordaining three young men to the priesthood after ordaining three others only 18 months ago. We are proud that one of the ordinands is Mairehau parishioner, Alister Castillo, the other two being Huynh Tran (Papanui) and Graeme Blackburn (Burnside). Everyone is welcome to come to the Ordination Mass on Saturday 1st July, 11am at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. Father Alister’s first Mass will be the next day at 10:30am at Mairehau. There will be an afternoon tea for him at the St Albans Uniting Church hall on Nancy Avenue at 3pm.

Mass Cards for the Bereavedit is a good and holy thing to pray for the dead (2 Maccabees 12: 46). This has always been an important dimension of Catholic life. As our beloved dead make their way through purgatory to the joy of Heaven, we support them with our prayers and love that they may be forgiven their sins and receive the reward of eternal life.

Of course, the greatest prayer we can offer is that of Holy Mass. Any priest will offer Mass for the happy repose of the soul of our loved ones who have passed away. This request is often made at the time of a person’s death, but also at the anniversary of the death or other family occasion. The Mass offering is usually $10. We now have special Franciscan Mass cards available which you may wish to send to the bereaved.
