We don’t much like to talk about money. But when the Church speaks of money, she comes with a fresh perspective.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Mt 6:21).
The gospel teaches us that everything we have is a gift from God, and that we should be generous in sharing with others what we have received. It is an eternal truth that each of us invests our treasure where our heart lies.
It was with that spirit that we undertook the Capital Fundraising Programme for our new Church and facilities. We have a big project in front of us. It is exciting – not many generations get the opportunity to build a beautiful church which will be at the service of God’s people for the next one to two centuries.
I am delighted (and proud) to advise that parishioners have stepped up with grace and generosity to the challenge of this Capital Fundraising Programme here at St Francis of Assisi.
We were given an audacious goal of two million dollars. Always we knew this would be demanding. Our parish covers the area of the city which has most suffered from the earthquakes.
In the midst of all this, you and I have pledged $1,482,899 since February. To date, we have received 205 gifts/pledges, with an average amount pledged of $7,234.
What an extraordinary result in less than three months. A lot of this giving has been deeply sacrificial. I thank you and I thank God from the bottom of my heart.
We still have 50 families who have advised that a decision as to what to give is still pending. I am confident that other parishioners and friends will join us in this project over coming months.
If you haven’t come to a decision as to what level of support you can give our parish rebuild, please take this intention to prayer. Pick up a pledging form from the church foyer or contact the parish office. Be part of our exciting future.
